Goal and Role : Gallente AOE Long Range bombardment option
Small uses blaster turret recolored.
Large uses missile turret recolored (white and green?)
Projectile used would be the infantry plasma cannon shot, the bolt speed is significantly higher but still slower than the missile making it less appropriate at extreme ranges however the plasma turret features higher endurance in combat over the missiles.
Small works like a plasma cannon / bolt pistol / mass driver with a sizable magazine of 12-16, the charge function serves as a ROF metering mostly with chance of shot canceling. The heat encourages spews of 4 shots with short nap time between each volley set. The reload is fairly decent keeping it in the action.
The Larger one however, has a pre-volley charge function. While the operator could fire at 0 charge. The more charge the turret has the larger the volley. A full charge will always overheat the turret as well as empty the magazine. The dispersion climb during the volley is significant to cause a long range attack to carpet bomb an area. Shotgun styled reloading, reloading is a significant time factor and the volley method will deplete the onboard ammo very quickly.
Similar to all plasma weaponry it has an anti shield profile of +10 and -10 armor.
Comes with own skill group.
All vehicles who have applicable bonuses shall have rail guns and missiles to caldari and blasters and plasmas to gallente.
Comments? Suggestions? Differing ideas?

Jonny D Buelle wrote:Well actually Blaster turrets ARE Gallentean Turrets, based on EVE Blaster turrets. The logic, which I think you must have missed, is that Blaster turrets (EVE) are starting weapons for Gallente, as well as they are used best with Gallente ships. In Dust514, we (Gallenteans) use Plasma weapons (AR, Plasma Cannon, Shotgun?) for light arms and Blaster turrets for our tanks, installations, dropships and LAVs. So this proves your Goal is already in place... Edit: More reading on EVE Hybrid Turrets.
Blasters work by popping the plasma containment field towards the target and using magnetic funnels to send the slag down range. Shotgun would be a blaster.
Plasma Weaponry works by wrapping the plasma in a bubble and sends the whole bubble down field which allows for much longer ranges before dissipating. AR, Placon, IoP would be plasma based. However there seems to be some reason that they're not used in space, probably speed.
Lore aside this is to give both caldari and gallente 2 racial turrets (as technically missiles are 'raceless' according to eve) for the time being, allows the dropships with an aoe weapon for use and gives gallente a native long range arcing bombardment weapon that doesn't require a straight los to bring the hurt. The closest thing to regular artillery we are going to get.

Racro 01 Arifistan wrote:ohhhhh...... the bullshit i'd be able to pull off with this turret.
balancing issues though
its maximum range (would have to be shorter than the railguns and missiles at 300 and 275 respectively for the large calibre turrets.
would have to have a high direct damage and decent splash damage. since its a burst weapon. 550 direct at std, 575 at adv and 600 at proto.
splash damges of 450,475,495 with either 3.5 - 4.0 m radius.
charge time of 3-4 seconds for max volley unload
ammo clip of say 8 to 10.
max reload speed of 4 to 6 seconds.
max ammo of 150 -175.
turret turn rate is higher than missile/railgun but slower than blaster.
fitting cost: 175 cpu 550 pwr gird. for std. 200cpu/590 pwr grid for adv, 250cpu,630 pwr grid for proto.
operation skill reduces charge up time by 5% skill set includes: ammo capacity, proficiency,re-laod speed, fitting optimization
prices are same as blaster.
p.s not going to suggest stats for sml varients as I don't use small turrets.
Max range is whatever the projectile speed and arc would let you deal with.
Sounds like good numbers to start with though.

Foundation Seldon wrote:The details you've given seem to conflict with the basic goal of the turret as listed in the first line of the OP.
I like the idea of being able to carpet bomb an area but having spread out damage over a large area doesn't seem like something that would be all that useful in a fight against other vehicles. In what situation would someone need to actually spread out their damage to the point where the charge function is useful on the large variation of the turret? How much Splash Damage would they need to do in that situation where that would be a useful thing to do? Being able to empty your magazine in such a way seems like it'd be more useful in a way that's reminescent of the high alpha damage Large Missile Turret. How does their alpha damage compare to the Large Missiles in comparison? You say that the Plasma Turret has high "endurance" during combat but what does this mean in context?
You say its an AoE long range bombardment weapon but what would you need to do to make sure that the Large Turret variation isn't clearing out large areas of infantry during said bombardment? Doesn't the basic concept conflict with the direction of recent changes to Large Turrets? If anything it seems like carpet bombing an area would be something that's more useful in the small turret variation as they're focused more on infantry style combat to begin with, this would also diversify them compared to the Small Missiles.
Think vehicle shotgun, anti long range vehicle and anti structure purposes with the large one.
Doing the carpet bombing is a viable method but will eat ammo very very quickly and will expose the tanker to trouble during reloads. Also with the dispersion factor thrown in and very slow dispersion decay (matches rate of heat loss), it will not be accurate.
I am not saying the idea is completely perfect but the accuracy will be a major down fall of the turret forcing it closer or forcing a 'suppression' effect from much further away as the idea of getting carpet bombed is very unappealing in the presence of the vehicle.
